The Laser Medusa Helmet was built for Burning Man 2009 and updated the following year. It features a collection of 5 milliwatt green laser modules mounted on springs on top of an otherwise unassuming hard hat. An accelerometer is also mounted on the helmet to read the current tilt in two axes. A microcontroller worn with the power supply monitors the inclination and turns the lasers off as a safety precaution if it tilts too far over. The microcontroller also maintains a 12:1 duty cycle to prevent overheating of the laser modules. When run with a rather heavy 7 amp-hour battery it can last for several hours. It is one of the most delightfully useless items Attoparsec has ever made.
